A Happy Child

A Happy, Joyful, Humble, Cheerful Woman

“Once more Jesus put his hands on the man’s eyes. Then his eyes were opened…” Mark 8:25

Today song lyrics kept repeating in my mind and making me joyful! What I was singing was the chorus to “Blessed Assurance”, a truly beloved hymn. Fanny Crosby was the authoress. She had written her autobiography and entitled it “This Is My Story, This Is My Song.” which is written in the chorus of “Blessed Assurance”. She was a prolific hymn and songwriter who wrote over 8,500 poems. Many of her hymns are still sung in churches today every Sunday, although she died in 1915. She was a beloved songwriter who truly loved the Lord.

Fanny was a happy, joyful, humble, cheerful woman although her life saw many tragedies in her nearly 95 years of life. She had an infection in her eye when she was a very young baby and lost her eyesight when the wrong medicine was prescribed. That never held her back. At age eight she wrote:

“Oh what a happy child I am, although I cannot see!…”

And as an adult, she said, “Do you know that if at birth I had been able to make one petition, it would have been that I should be born blind? When I get to heaven, the first face that shall ever gladden my sight will be that of my Savior!”. She certainly loved Jesus! She never became bitter no matter what came her way. She truly is an example for anyone to follow with or without a handicap.
