Retirement Years – Part 4
I am not an ordained minister. I am the granddaughter, niece, and cousin of ministers though. My grandfather was a circuit-riding Methodist minister from West Virginia. I only saw him once before he died. He was a wicked man.
My father was sent home from college to protect his two sisters and two brothers from his abuse. My father wanted to be a history teacher but it was not to be. My father had an even harsher childhood before he went to college. He said the only toy he ever had was a small red ball.
My uncle Paul was a Methodist Bishop. I was honored to sing a solo at his funeral. The Methodist Church where his funeral was held seemed like a cathedral to me.
My cousin Don was also a minister. I never met him and he is deceased now also.
I always thought with three ministers within my close relatives I would become a missionary. That did not happen but a ministry found me.
I grew up Methodist but my husband and I went to another denomination together after we were married. We became very involved with church life. Although we enjoyed going to any Christian…
