Retirement Years Part 3

Our new house was situated on a street that went down to a bridge that crossed over a creek. We were almost to the bottom of the hill. Only two more houses were on the road before the bridge. We had a beautiful view of the Blue Mountains as we drove down the hill to our home and our backyard neighbor was a tree farm! We loved the neighborhood. To top it off, our best friends lived on the same street on top of our hill. We often walked up the steep hill to visit with our friends and they would then walk down the hill with us to the creek. Great memories of those days!

Our friends were writers. After my husband died they would invite me up to their home for writing nights. I enjoyed a multitude of those nights when we would write until midnight and then share what we wrote. Michael, the husband, has written poetry and songs all his married life. He published a book of poems and songs and might write another for he has an extensive portfolio of his writing. Linda, my best friend, writes in essay form usually about nature.

Shortly after my husband’s death, my daughter invited me out to California to go to a women’s workshop on journaling. I…
