Balancing Emotions

“Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” 1 Peter 5:8

There are many areas of our lives where we need to strive for balance. It is good to maintain balance in our work and in our play, balance in eating a balanced diet and even balance in our self-image, for example. All work and no play or all play and no work can lead to disaster. Eating too much and the wrong foods or eating too little of even the right foods can lead to health problems. Being prideful or feeling not good enough are not balanced ways to think about ourselves. As Paul warns, the area where we are unbalanced can be the area where our enemy gets a stronghold into our lives.

Balance in all things is important. We need to be alert and ask God to help us work on the areas where we are unbalanced. The area I am having trouble keeping in balance is my emotions.

God gave us emotions for us to enjoy our lives. Emotions can control our lives or we can control our emotions for a victorious life. We should want to be self-controlled and alert and to stand firm in our faith. We should want to be emotionally mature. We do not always succeed. We may want to be emotionally…
