How To Get More Out Of What You Memorize
Make It Your Own
Picture from Crosswalks.com.
You can get more out of the scriptures or prayers you have memorized by making them your own. Make scriptures your own by putting your name in the verse, rewriting verse or prayer in your own words, or journaling about a topic related to the verse.
For example, I had fun rewriting the Lord’s Prayer although I think the Lord’s Prayer is perfect. Here is a portion of my writing:
My Abba above in Your dwelling-holy-place.
Your name is love.
You will come down again.
It is all about You.
Your presence fills the heavens and is known on the earth.
Your gifts are new every morning.
You will remember our sins no more.
Lead me and keep my steps on the narrow way.
You are holding my right hand.
You, my God, reign.
You prepare my bright future to be with You.
Thank you,
So be it! Alleluia!
Rote memorization of scriptures is important but making scriptures personal makes it fun and maybe more meaningful.
