A Tale Of Three Women

Picture From Google on Wikipedia

“Very well,” Deborah said, “I will go with you. But because of the way you are going about this, the honor will not be yours, for the Lord will hand Sis’era over to a woman.” Judges 4:9

In the Old Testament of the Bible there is a story of three woman which is told twice in the book of Judges. It is told once as a narrative and once as a victory song or poetry.

Two of the woman were heroines and beloved women of Israel and the third is the mother of Israel’s enemy.

First is Deborah’s story. Deborah was a female judge of Israel in approximately 1125 BC.

She listened to the grievances of her people and as judge and leader she settled their disputes and problems during peace times.

She was also a charismatic, mighty warrior leader in war times. She had complete faith in God and relayed messages from God. She lead her generals to fight their enemies even when the odds were against Israel.

She took up her sword and with her General Barak who was reluctant to go at first she fought the superior Canaanite Army. She told her General that their mortal enemy would fall into the Israelites hands.
