Trust and Obey, Can It be Done?

“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weakness, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are – yet was without sin.” Hebrews 4:15

I was once asked by a friend this question: “Did Jesus have the choice to disobey.” Here is part of my answer:

Fully God, fully human is our Lord and Savior. As fully God He knew He was born to die. As fully human He was given free will. Scripture records the fully human man, Jesus, talking to, listening to, and praying to His Father. From the beginning, He knew God’s plan for man’s redemption. Being fully God He was perfect and would only obey. He chose to obey His heavenly Father even to death on a cross. As human, he had emotions and feelings but He was without sin. He trusted His Father completely. He as fully human did ask His father if there was another way in the garden where He prayed the night of His arrest. As God, He knew it was the only way and He chose to obey.

Jesus is our example. He chose to pray, listen to and obey His Father. We also can follow Jesus’ example and not perfectly but to the best of our ability, Trust and Obey. There is no other way.
